Self-sabotage: Recognizing Fears Vs Intuition
Self-sabotage is the act of preventing yourself from reaching your own goals! It is a real thing. When your own thought patterns and habits stand against your own dreams, you will not reach your fullest potential, just like most. But that’s not what we want, right? We want to live our dreams, be happy and fulfilled. Then it’s time to dig deeper, where do these sabotaging thoughts come from?
Fear
Our brain is an extremely sophisticated instrument and one of its function is to protect us from discomfort & uncertainty. It’s the self-preservation technique that holds our fears. Fears are important, they prevent us from taking extreme steps like jumping off a mountain or chopping off our fingers while cutting vegetables. They help us survive. But it also hinders our growth, because we humans, just don’t want to survive, we want to thrive too. That’s the nature of our existence, duality. Hence, many of our fears are programmed in our nervous systems based on past traumas that lead us to overthink, create delusional stories and unknowingly self-sabotage our goals. Here are some uncanny fears that come from our deep seated subconscious believes:
Fear of success – Although we all want success, we know it might make us look different from the rest and hence we will be abandoned by our usual gang. Humans are social animals; we can’t tolerate abandonment.
Fear of judgement – Difference of opinion will lead others to dislike us. We don’t want that!
Fear of joy – Subconscious believes that joy is temporary can lead someone to runaway from joy.
Fear of love – This one is really strange but existential. We all want love, yet fear of being hurt by our loved ones, consequentially avoiding love.
Fear of vulnerability – Unfortunately vulnerability is related to weakness, who wants to be seen weak? Certainly, the ego mind doesn’t like that!
Fear of intimacy – Attachment and fear of losing someone close can lead to lack of intimacy and hence one cannot enjoy true connect in relations. Letting go seems more difficult choice.
Fear of abandonment – We don’t want to be different so that we can belong. But the funny thing is, first we need to belong to ourselves.
Fear of being cheated – Nobody wants to be cheated, so rather have no relations or dreams.
Fear of being powerful – Who wants to be an outlier and make others around feel insecure? Certainly not a healthy belief but you see what I mean by self-sabotaging thought patterns!
Fears are backed by imaginary stories from past or future anxieties. Making us believe that we are not good enough, not worthy of love, success, power and hence making us be in the same comfort zone. Brain says, yay!! At least you survive!
Intuition
Another sophisticated function of the brain is receiving insights, called as intuition or instinct. Generally, we receive insights as a future image or a knowing rather than a story. Feels like a warning or an enabler for the future, with no as such judgmental thoughts or reasoning. It’s a very silent inner voice that needs to be given attention in order to be heard rightly, else fear might surface as intuition. I perceive it as a message from the high intelligence guiding me for greater wellbeing and growth. It generally pops up anytime or anywhere like an inspiration, generally when fear-based thoughts are minimized but can also pop up like a warning when the brain is super active. You just need to pick the signal, rely and act on it. Many world re-known scientists like Albert Einstein, Nikola Tesla and Steve Jobs have spoken about intuition.
Fear & intuition both play from the subconscious mind. Let’s say one is the downward gravity and other is the upward gravity, or one is the sabotaging mind and other is the uplifting mind. And if you train and educate your conscious mind enough with rational reasoning, your awareness will grow stronger and hence you will be more and more pulled towards the uplifting mind.
